What My Paris2024 Olympic Events Would Cost At LA28

I was curious after finishing up my Paris2024 events and ticket recap what those events would cost to attend for LA28 even though I specifically said: Quick note before I dive in, unfortunately this cannot serve as a blueprint for you and the LA28 Olympics with the 24% service fee being assessed on their ticket sales along with the 12 ticket maximum =(

But curiosity got the best of me so here we are…

Quick Overview of Paris2024 Tickets Sales

Important things to know about Paris2024

• Ticket prices were consistent throughout all ticket drops and the Games meaning NO dynamic pricing (which LA28 has NOT ruled out doing)
• Tickets bought on the Paris2024 official site incurred a 1.5% processing fee (VS LA28 imposing a 24% service fee)
• Ticket re-sales were tightly regulated with an official re-sale site used – tickets could only be sold at face value (but with demand being softer than anticipated, I think there were many sellers that would have offloaded tickets for less)
  • Reasonable fees on the re-sale site with buyers paying a 10% service fee and buyers paying 5% service fee
• About a month before the start of the Olympics, last-minute tickets were released weekly on the official site and then daily the week before.
  • Once Paris2024 was underway, last minute tickets would be constantly added on the site

While I was successful in getting a time slot for the single ticket sales phase in 2023, I didn’t buy any Paris2024 tickets until late July 2024 – a few days before the games began and about a week before I was in Paris.

Comparing Prices: Paris2024 VS LA28 – Athletics (Track and Field) Medal Sessio

At first, I thought to just compare the prices broadly like this:

Compare the two seat maps – at first I was miffed that there were so many more categories for LA28 but upon inspection, it actually appears to be more fair than the seat maps and categories for Paris2024. For example, many Paris 2024 Category A ticket would be an B or C for LA28 – but then again, the prices are considerably higher as you will see with the two price lists (accurate through Drop 2 for LA28)…..so I don’t really know if it’s comparing apples to apples.

One thing that is really telling for me is that Paris2024 made their pricing public and even made PDFs that were readily accessible to help with planning – also knowing that prices would remain the same throughout the drops and during the games.

While for LA28, I had to create a ticket price list to help people plan – the prices have remained consistent during the first two drops BUT dynamic pricing has NOT been ruled out.

So I have some mixed feelings now about LA28 pricing and figured that maybe it would be easiest to just show what I paid for Paris2024 and what the LA28 equivalents would cost me because I did score some INCREDIBLE seats to some amazing events (that would definitely be the same category for both).

Individual Paid Sporting Events I Attended

Men’s Hockey (Prelims) – Paris2024: $26.40 VS LA28: $28*

*This was an event that I opted not to go to and instead gifted my ticket but included since I did eat the cost

Paris2024 $26.40/€24.36 including the 1.5% processing fee for a Category D Ticket (up to D) / bought from the official site

LA28 $28 including the 24% service fee for a Category D Ticket (up to D) / bought from the official site

Concorde Urban Project – Paris2024: $26.71 VS LA28: N/A (NO EQUIVALENT SESSION)

$26.71/€24.36 including the 1.5% processing fee for a General Admission Ticket / Bought last minute ticket from the Paris2024 ticket site the day of the session

What Attending The Concorde Urban Project Was Like

Another amazing use of Paris landmarks as backdrop to the Games. This was the first time all urban events – 3×3 basketball, BMX freestyle, breaking and skateboarding took place at the same location, Place de la Concorde.

While this ticket did not get me access to ticketed events, I was able to see demonstrations and had solid views of some of the events – just not an actual seat.

There’s not an equivalent session being offered at LA28

Men’s Water Polo (Prelims) – Paris2024: $26.71 VS LA28: $93.02 (+ $9.30)

Paris2024 $41.85/€38.50 including the 10% processing fee for a Category C Ticket – €35 (original ticket price) + €3.50 (10% service fee for buyers of resale ticket) / bought from the official resale ticket site

LA28 $93.02 including the 24% service fee for a Category C Ticket (up to D) – Assessing same fee as Paris2024 + 10% service fee on full amount of ticket??

What Attending The Two Men’s Water Polo Matches Was Like

When even the walk to and the building the event takes place in nails it on the design front.

Highlights included watching the US team (who ended the games with the Bronze medal!) and the US goalkeeper scoring a full length of the pool goal at the buzzer! And then later watched Serbia (who ended up being three time Olympic gold medalists) battle Espana (who was on a hot steak).

Lots of action and athleticism on display – full-out swim sprints + launching out of the water to get a shot off + trying to drown/dunk one another

Tennis @ Roland Garros: – Paris2024: $123.22 ($108.55 + $14.67) VS LA28: $689.91 ($551.93 + $55.19 + $55.19 +$27.60)

*Paris2024 $108.55/€99 including the 10% service fee for a Category A (up to D) Ticket – €99 (original ticket price) + €9 (10% service fee for buyers of resale ticket) + $14.67 $215.27/€198 (resale ticket + 10% service fee to buy) – €85.50/$89.84 (sold on resale site + 5% service fee for selling)

One of those situations when the tickets being sold were only available as a pair. so I bought both as Tennis tickets are super hard to get plus the seats were too good to pass on. I immediately listed and re-sold the other ticket that I did not need.

LA28 $551.93 including the 24% service fee for a Category A Ticket (up to D) / bought from the official site + $55.19 (10% service fee for buyers of resale ticket) + $55.19 + $27.60 (10% service fee for buyers of resale ticket that I didn’t use + resold – eating the cost) + 5% service fee for selling that ticket

NOTE: I decided to try to replicate the costs for these scenarios as I am a person that does pay more for better seats. An inexact approximation since we have zero info on the LA28 resale setup/fees (but since I was doing this, figured I would go all in). AND this also doesn’t account for seeing 5 matches but I really didn’t want to go too far off the rails for this pricing exercise.

What Attending 5!! Tennis Matches At Roland Garros Was Like – (3x Men’s Singles Round 3 + Women’s Singles Quarterfinals + Mixed Quarterfinals)

Some of the highlights included

• While attending the French Open is still on my wanderlist, I was so happy to see some matches at Roland Garros (Top left and Middle Left) AND discovering the most delectable passionfruit dessert – take a creamsicle but make it passionfruit <3
• All of the matches that were happening at that court that day! (Top center)
• Seeing some BTS with tennis rackets being strung (Top Right)
• Having a rain delay and getting to watch the grounds crew work their magic (Middle right)
• An upset by Auger-Aliassime over Medvedev who was hilariously true to form with his complaining (Bottom left)
• Seeing and being so close to Casper Ruud (Bottom center)
• And being able to watch US’s Gauff and Fritz even in a loss (Bottom right) – crazy that Auger-Aliassime won twice that day on this court!!

Women’s Football (Semi-finals – Technically Free For Me) – Paris2024: $111.24 VS LA28: $418.88*

*One of my friends was super lucky in getting a bunch of free tickets for Paris2024 and snagged this ticket for me! Yes – it was free and given to us by a local whose friend wasn’t able to make it. While I didn’t pay for this event and didn’t include the Paris2024 and LA28 ticket prices in their respective total, I figured I would show the price difference.

Paris2024 $111.24/€101.50 including the 1.5% processing fee for a Category A Ticket (up to E) / bought from the official site

LA28 $418.88 including the 24% service fee for a Category A Ticket (up to F) / bought from the official site

What Attending The Women’s Football Semifinals Match Was Like

I lucked out with not only being able to see the US Women’s football team beat Japan in the semifinals on their way to another Gold Medal, AND from a seat six rows back from the field and action (AND that the ticket was free)!!

Beach Volleyball (Women’s + Men’s Round of 16) Paris2024: $141.56 ($132.75 + $8.81) VS LA28: $586.05 ($558.14 + $27.91

I ended up with a couple of beach volleyball tickets for two sessions and opted to attend only one session. I chose the one that had the MOST incredible seat so selling the other ticket resulted in paying in additional $8.81 [$132.75/€121.80 (last minute ticket + 1.5% processing fee) – $123.94/€114 (sold on resale site + 5% service fee for selling)]

LA28 $558.14 including the 24% service fee for a Category A Ticket (up to D) / bought from the official site

Same scenario with buying two tickets and selling one $27.91 (5% service fee for buyers of resale ticket)

What Attending The Beach Volleyball @ Eiffel Tower Stadium Was Like

Paris2024 will be hard to top with pop up stadiums like this – Eiffel Tower in the background for Beach Volleyball. Some of the highlights

• The first of my “you know the seat is good based on where the TV cameras are – for this event it’s when there’s no one behind you because that’s where they’re located” – Six rows back from the action and DIRECTLY across from the Eiffel Tower.
• Breakfast with the Eiffel Tower in the background never gets old (Top Left)
• Before the matches, you were able to watch the teams warm up (Top middle)
• Women’s match was exciting with so many set points but the Swiss prevailed over the Chinese teams (Middle middle + Middle right)
• Such an incredible locale and also Beach volleyball is just a vibe.

How I Got The Athletics Ticket + Spend Breakdown

Paris2024 $327.18/€299.42 including the 1.5% processing fee for a Category C Ticket (up to E) / bought from the official site

I originally bought another Athletics Category C ticket on the same day as the Beach Volleyball tickets. But I kept scouring the last minute tickets to see if I could snag a better seat and this one popped up so $19.57 = $325.80/€299.42 (last minute ticket + 1.5% processing fee) – $306.23/€280.25 (sold on resale site + 5% service fee for selling)

LA28 $558.14 including the 24% service fee for a Category A Ticket (up to D) / bought from the official site

Same scenario with buying two tickets and selling one $68.22 (5% service fee for buyers of resale ticket)

Athletics

ATH06 – Men’s 100M

What Attending This Athletics Event Was Like – Epic night is an understatment featuring events such as Men’s 100 M Semis and Final / Women’s High Jump Final / Men’s 1500M Semi-finals!!

Some of the highlights

• My seat was on the railing above club level which was directly over the section where the cameras were
• Medal ceremonies for previous night events: Sha’carri Richardson getting her silver for the Women’s 100M (Top Middle pic of)
• Ethan Katzberg of Canada took home the Men’s hammer throw Gold that evening (Top right) photo
• Men’s 1500 semifinals esp crazy considering how that final turned out! (Middle Right pic)
  • Fun fact: Josh Kerr is the third from the front in that photo and he just broke the 27-year-old mile world record in 2026
• Two nail biter events: first with the Women’s high jump finals
  • Nicola Olyslagers from Australia is so joyful and so fun to watch. Plus props to her for showcasing mental health: she journals after every jump as seen in the Middle left photo
  • Yaroslava Mahuchikh from Ukraine continued her domination in the event with a gold (Middle center pic).
• And then there was the marque event: Men’s 100M semis and finals were so incredible to watch and lived up to the hype
  • The bottom left photo is a still taken from the video I shot on an iPhone of the too close to call finish of the Men’s 100M
  • So incredible to watch Noah Lyles and happy to see him take home the gold and ringing the bell

Final Thoughts

I am a person that does prefer better seats for sports I really enjoy so not out of the realm of possibility that I would choose these sports if tickets were available for LA28 (I mean I did go to Vancouver for a World Cup Group Match and Kansas City to watch Messi play in a Quarterfinal Match despite my intense dislike for FIFA and World Cup ticket prices)

It is highly unlikely that I would try to replicate the buying and selling of tickets with LA28 with the 24% service fee being assessed on tickets so which would undoubtedly leave me with not as good as seats as I got for Paris2024.

Even then, just buying tickets to the same events would be a total of $2,595.42 which is over $1,000 more than I spent for my ENTIRE 13 day Paris2024 trip!
