Fairmont Waterfront Review: When Relaxed West Coast Luxury Is Done Well

The decor around the hotel is what the Fairmont describes relaxed West Coast coastal luxury or the blending of modern urban elegance with elements inspired by the local natural landscape.

July 9, 2026

Located directly across from Canada Place Cruise Terminal, this upscale waterfront hotel combines an unbeatable location with comfortable rooms, good service, some pretty cool perks (including cruise day luggage assistance and complimentary bikes!), and beautiful harbor views.

If you’re looking for a luxury hotel that makes embarking on a cruise, attending a conference, or just visiting Vancouver seem almost effortless, the Fairmont Waterfront is one of the best options in the city.

Let’s see what my stay was like at the Fairmont Waterfront while I was in Vancouver to attend a World Cup 26 match (along with good to know and FAQs sections.)

THE STAY

First Impressions

As I walk into the Fairmont Waterfront, I notice that the grand lobby feels polished without being overly formal and that would set the tone for my stay. The large windows in front bring in natural light and showcase the harbor and Canada Place directly across the street.

The decor around the hotel is what the Fairmont describes relaxed West Coast coastal luxury or the blending of modern urban elegance with elements inspired by the local natural landscape.

The dominant colors throughout the hotel are prominent here in the lobby with crisp creams, golden caramels, and warm browns serving as the base. Lots of organic materials such as natural stone and rich dark wood furnishings are used but then softened with luxurious textiles. All of this helps to strike a nice balance between luxury and welcoming rather than feeling stuffy.

Check-In

Mandy who helped check me in was courteous and thorough. She acknowledged both my ALL membership and that the booking was through Chase.

She was knowledgeable with what was included with the Edit Booking and went through all of the benefits along with how I would be able to use them ie what the $100 property credit could be used towards.

She was proactive with the upgrade and later helped make my room change seamless (the first room was having HVAC issues).

ROOM

ROOM TYPE: Originally Booked: Fairmont City View Double Double – Upgrade to Signature Harbor View Double Double (Chase Edit Benefit) / ROOM # : 1112

ROOM SIZE/CONFIGURATION: All standard rooms at the Fairmont Waterfront are 355 square feet.

The rooms are elegant rather than trendy. Think classic Fairmont styling with modern updates, plush beds, quality linens, spacious bathrooms, and large windows leaning of course into the relaxed West Coast Luxury vibe happening throughout the hotel.

There’s a single nightstand between the two doubles in the room with one outlet in the area with a heavy use of dark woods lightened up by the crisp creams, golden caramels, and warm browns. The individual reading lights on one side of the headboards allow one person to read while the rest of the room is dark.

On the other side of the room, there’s a dark wooden desk and brown leather chair that can double as a vanity area or working space. Storage space is available in a dresser underneath the flat screen TV.

The relaxed West Coast coastal luxury is again on display in the bathroom with rich dark wood vanities, large tiled entryways, and the wood bench surrounding the tub in the shower.

While there is only one adjustable, single head configuration in the the shower space – that downside is offset by the wood surround that allow for a lot of space for personal items (an appreciated nice touch when sharing a bathroom with a friend!)

One of my favorite brands is used at the Fairmont Waterfront with Le Labo Rose 31 shampoo, conditioner and shower gel available in large bottles. There’s a large bottle of Le Labo Rose 31 lotion as well as soap on the vanity.

Standard closet with iron, ironing board, luggage rack and safe in the closet. I realize that it has become standard in many hotels to only have robes pre-placed in the bathroom with the need to order slippers, if desired. Conveniently for Vancouver, an umbrella was placed in the closet (plus you can request one if needed at the Bell Services desk).

NOTE: the mini-fridge in the room is one of those automated ones that has sensors when items are moved and will automatically charge you. Here’s the pricing list for the mini-bar.

Depending on your room, you’ll enjoy views of: downtown skyline, Vancouver Harbour, North Shore Mountains and/or Stanley Park

The harbor view from my window looked directly onto Canada Place and the largest sized cruise ships when they are docked at the cruise terminal with the North Shore Mountains in the background.

HOTEL AMENITIES

The information on what the hotel offered!

Fitness Area

While not sprawling, the fitness center at the Fairmont Waterfront is functional for most travelers and is open 24 hours a day.

If you are looking to lift, it is stocked with a small number of free weights, kettlebells, weighted medicine balls along with a couple of benches and stability balls.

There’s a few machines on the other side of the room along with treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bikes and a rowing machine for those looking to get a cardio workout in.

There are also mats, blocks and straps available for those wanting to do some yoga. Along with rollers to help alleviate sore muscles.

A water cooler as well as flavored water, apples and chilled towels can be found in that same area

Changing Room + Hot Tub

These are open from 6 AM to 10 PM daily

Men’s and women’s change rooms are also available with a steam room in the women’s (maybe there is one in the men’s but alas I didn’t check) along with complimentary lockers and two showers stocked with Le Labo shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.

The women’s change room was also stocked with shower caps, cotton swabs, cotton rounds, cotton balls, pads and tampons

Pool Area

Open from 6 AM to 10 PM daily

One end of the rooftop houses the year-round outdoor 50 ft. heated pool with loungers and offers sweeping vistas of the harbor. From here, you can see how close the hotel is to Canada Place and the Convention Centre!

I found the pool to be a very comfortable temperature for morning swims but I was also in Vancouver during an abnormally hot and sunny time!

A Pool Cabana that offers a rooftop retreat for summer dining and relaxation.

Gold Lounge

Fairmont Gold guests enjoy exclusive privileges including access to our private Fairmont Gold lounge featuring spectacular harbor view patio, complimentary breakfast, evening canapés and an honour bar.

Access to this lounge is available by booking a Fairmont Gold room, paying for an upgrade, or holding ALL – Accor Diamond status.

No Spa

Surprisingly there is not a spa located on property!

BARS / RESTAURANTS

ARC Bar + Restaurant

Local craft beers, world-class wines and expertly crafted cocktails await you. Featuring GARDEN TO GLASS COCKTAILS: Inspired by the rooftop garden and apiary, the exclusive Fairmont Waterfront Gin is uniquely distilled from honey and infused with locally foraged botanicals, including spruce tips, rosehips, clover and cedar capturing the essence of the West Coast forests and our rooftop garden.

ARC Restaurant + Bar is the best example in the hotel of relaxed West Coast coastal luxury as it features a bold, centralized bar layout with contemporary material choices. Combined with the floor to ceiling windows, everything works together to create a warm, engaging atmosphere.

Breakfast Buffet

There is a decent selection of hot and cold items including smoked Pacific salmon.

Also lots of baked goods and fresh fruit.

One of my favorite parts about the breakfast buffet was that there was an ala carte menu that you can order off of! And everything was reasonably sized allowing you to comfortably try multiple things – either from that menu and/or with buffet items and not cause too much food waste.

You can tell the quality is high by the color of that egg yolk!

The pro move is really to enjoy the ala carte items vs eating from the buffet.

In-Room Dining

You are able to order IRD for delivery or pick up from the Rooftop

SERVICE EXPERIENCE

Service was personable and friendly and never felt too formal or stiff from everyone that I interacted with.

The service was quite attentive throughout my stay with the staff checking in with me by text a few times which I personally like as a way to communicate as it is unobtrusive and allows me to respond when I had a moment. Once to verify that my bags had been moved to my room and the new room was satisfactory. And then to inquire how the stay was going and to offer assistance if I needed anything. There was also an informative text on the day of departure with information on checkout – times and procedures.

PERKS OF STAYING HERE

Since this part of my stay was when my friend and I were attending a World Cup match, I was unfortunately unable to take advantage of these perks but don’t want you to miss out because you didn’t know about these!

Cruise Day Luggage Assistance

One of the other reasons why the Fairmont Waterfront is a top choice for those staying before a cruise. They offer luggage assistance to the Canada Place cruise ship terminal for hotel guests departing on a Vancouver cruise (without other pre-arranged luggage services!).

  • A hotel representative will visit the guestroom to:
    • Verify and tag baggage
    • Provide instructions for cruise terminal delivery
    • Guests must be present in their room during collection and should have their passport and cruise tags prepared at the time of pickup.
    • The service is provided on a complimentary basis; gratuities for our Bell Team are appreciated.

Hotel Courtesy Car

  • Exclusively available to Fairmont Waterfront guests, it’s a complimentary luxury car service offered in partnership with Cadillac Canada.
    • Transportation for within the downtown core area is available daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
    • Service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and is available for drop-offs only. Please inquire with our Doorman regarding availability.

Complimentary Bikes

  • Take in the city’s stunning scenery and waterfront views while enjoying this personalized experience, perfect for discovering the best of Vancouver.
    • Explore Vancouver at your own pace with our complimentary bike usage, available exclusively for ALL – Accor Live Limitless members.
    • Bikes can be reserved at the Bell Desk in 2-hour blocks, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Rooftop Garden & Bee Program

One of the hotel’s most unique features is its rooftop herb garden and resident honeybee apiary. All part of Fairmont Waterfront’s commitment to sustainability. The third floor terrace is also a habitat for hundreds of species of solitary bees (our super pollinators) native to British Columbia.

Many herbs and honey are incorporated into the restaurant’s menu, giving dining a genuine farm-to-table feel rather than just a marketing slogan.

Bee Tour

  • Running from June 1 – August 31, this daily tour will let you experience the wonder of bees up close with a member of our Bee Team, as we take you into our rooftop hives to see the bees at work and discover the significance of bees and pollinators to our planet.
    • After the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to join us in ARC Restaurant + Bar to indulge in Chef Harris Sakalis’ 3-course Pollinator Menu, a limited dining experience only available in the summer months, showcasing all of the delicious foods we have our bees to thank for.
    • Or try one of our Garden to Glass cocktails, made with our custom Wayward Waterfront West Coast Gin!
    • Book With Concierge

MY OVERALL REVIEW

I had heard about this hotel as I was chatting with people about Alaskan cruises. They were lured in by the convenience of the hotel first but then the good service and the ease of staying here won them over and they now opt to choose this hotel whenever they are in Vancouver.

I did notice how many cruise passengers were staying here when I was there. The staff clearly understands embarkation days, luggage storage, and helping guests get to the terminal efficiently and are rewarded with lots of cruise ship business.

And even though I was not staying here pre- or post-cruise, I too was struck by the same factors. The location is genuinely unbeatable, the service feels polished without being pretentious, and the hotel delivers the kind of comfortable luxury that lets you settle into vacation mode right away.

It’s not the newest hotel in Vancouver, but it doesn’t need to be. As yes, some furnishings are beginning to show their age compared to Vancouver’s newest luxury hotels, everything remains very well maintained. So there was nothing glaring in that regard and definitely outweighed by all of the pluses.

Which are the harbor views, rooftop pool, excellent dining, interesting perks, and convenient location. I didn’t think the location would be that different but it was. Not only was I able to walk over to Canada Place (or for others, their cruise ship) or have dinner in Gastown or bike around Stanley Park, being just a little removed from downtown and at the waterfront, made it feel completely different (more relaxed) than staying downtown!

This hotel stay made me become a big fan of the relaxed West Coast luxury vibe – I could get used to this life!

GOOD TO KNOW

Who Should Stay Here?

  • I would absolutely recommend the Fairmont Waterfront if you are:
    • Taking an Alaska cruise (or any cruise that departs/ends in Vancouver!)
    • Visiting Vancouver for a weekend getaway
    • Wanting luxury within walking distance of major attractions
    • Celebrating a special occasion

If you’re primarily looking for the lowest nightly rate, there are better value options elsewhere downtown.

Why Cruise Passengers Should Opt For This Hotel

If you’re looking for a luxury hotel that makes embarking on a cruise almost effortless, the Fairmont Waterfront is one of the best options in the city.

The location is such an asset. If you’re arriving from Vancouver International Airport, the Canada Line SkyTrain takes about 30 minutes to Waterfront Station, leaving only a short walk to the hotel.

And then you’re only a short walk across the street from the cruise terminal! With the bonus that you don’t even have to worry about bringing your luggage over as the hotel can handle those logistics for you. As in they will arrange to have your bags delivered directly to your cabin on your cruise ship!
