Hyatt Regency Vancouver Review: Great Choice For A Last Minute World Cup Adventure!
Updated July 7, 2026
If given the opportunity, whether it’s choosing an itinerary because a cruise ship stops here or seeing my first ever World Cup match, I will always jump at the chance to visit Vancouver again as it happens to be one of my favorite cities in the world!
The only question would be where to stay. I opted for one of the city’s most popular choices – the Hyatt Regency Vancouver.
Why? For the same reason many opt to stay here: for its convenient downtown location, spacious rooms, easy access to public transportation, and short walk to Canada Place.
I can see why this is an excellent option for cruise passengers, those in town for conventions, or travelers wanting to explore Vancouver for a few days. While it isn’t the newest or most luxurious hotel in the city, it gets the important things right: comfortable rooms, good value, great location and exceptional service.

THE STAY
Check-In

As usual, I opted for an early morning flight so I arrived at the hotel around 11:45. My plan was to drop off my bags but I was directed to the front desk to see if an early check in could be accommodated.
There is a dedicated check-in area for World of Hyatt Elite members and upon getting in that line, someone assisting the lobby immediately came over to check me in.
The hotel was busy but not as busy as I thought it would be with it being peak summer cruise season in addition to the city being a World Cup host which we chatted about as she looked for available rooms. I was lucky that was the case because this hotel as many others (in host cities across Canada, Mexico and the US) either did not release hotel rooms bookable on points or had very restrictive cancellation policies initially.
She thanked me for being a Globalist (and noticed that this was return trip for me) and explained how with FIFA in town, there weren’t many rooms available to upgrade me to. No suites were available and the only balcony rooms would be on lower floors (I would discover later that when she was saying it was FIFA-related that the Egyptian team and delegation were staying at their hotel before their match!)
I appreciate that she took the time to look at my notes because my biggest preference for a room is quiet (no connecting doors and away from elevators) and then high floor and she took the time to review inventory to see what would meet those criteria.
And there was one but it was not quite ready yet. She messaged housekeeping to have that room inspected before she went through the amenities at the hotel and my globalist perks. And once she wrapped up, she was notified that my room was now ready. It’s small things like that which often go unnoticed that help make a stay go really well.
ROOM
ROOM TYPE: Originally Booked: King – Complimentary Upgrade to King City View Regency Club (World of Hyatt Globalist bene) / ROOM # : 3121
ROOM SIZE/CONFIGURATION: All King Rooms at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver are 380 square feet (35.5 square meters).
The décor leans toward contemporary business hotel rather than boutique luxury, but everything feels clean, functional and comfortable.

The king bed was flanked by two nightstands with two reading lamps with each having two outlet plugs + two USB-B slots. I personally like when there’s additional seating in a room and the chair was comfortable to lounge in and watch TV or to work in.
On a side note, the Hyatt Luxury Pillowtop mattress king bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have slept on in a hotel in the past few years – so much so that I was really sad to be checking out of the room!

On the other side of the room, there’s a 62″ flat screen TV along with a desk area. Since the Hyatt Regencys are situated near convention centers, this is a useful addition for the numerous business travelers that stay here. I appreciated that the full length mirror was in the room vs what seems to be the default set up of in the closet as the lighting is much better here.

In the bedroom, there is a king sized bed, another 46″ flat screen TV, a dresser underneath the TV, and nightstands on either side of the bed. The lamps on the nightstands have two outlet plugs + two USB slots which theoretically is great but ended up not being useful/functional for me (as I use a plug that can accommodate two USB-C slots it was too big to use on the lamp outlet plugs)

The closet for this room was to your immediate left upon entering the room. Here you will find your iron, ironing board, extra linens and room safe.
I love that there are robes pre-placed in rooms (and while there are no slippers, you can easily request them via the app)
One nice touch for Vancouver is to have an umbrella in each room.
To the right of that, there’s a cabinet that houses the mini-fridge. On top of that there’s a coffee maker along with coffee and tea supplies.

The bathroom has dark grey/almost black tiles both for flooring and for shower tiles but the lighting was adequate that it didn’t feel too dark.
The shower head was on the smaller side of hotel rain showers that I have seen in hotel rooms but the water pressure and temperature were good. Standard Pharmacopia bath amenities (shampoo, conditioning rinse and body wash in large bottles) that you find in Hyatt (they’re okay)
Bathroom amenities pre-placed in the sink area included hand soap, shower cap, cotton swabs along with body lotion (found in a large bottle attached to the sink)

The room is sold as a City view which made for some pretty sunrises/sunsets along with nighttime views.
HOTEL AMENITIES

The information on what the hotel offered and where everything was located was provided at check-in. A nice touch was that all the World Cup matches were being shown at Grain Tasting Bar with dates, times and match info provided on the reverse side.
FITNESS
As far as hotel gyms go, the Hyatt Regency Vancouver had a pretty good set up.

For those looking to get some weightlifting in, there were free weights, a big selection of kettleballs, weighted bars, multiple benches and also a number of machines along one side.

And for those looking to get a cardio workout in, there were six treadmills, two Peloton bikes and two ellipticals on the other side of the gym.
The photo on the left was showcasing the behind the scenes work that happens with service. I would get a swim in right as the pool opened and every day, they were testing the waters and cleaning the pool and hot tub.
Beautiful tip: A 20-min bike or row workout = 100 WoH bonus points with the Hyatt and Peloton partnership!
Nothing motivates me to work out besides getting more WoH points! The Hyatt and Peloton partnership is still ongoing with an easy opportunity to earn WoH points when you stay at a Hyatt and work out on a Peloton machine.

There is a small room that is partially partitioned off that I would use to roll or stretch in – especially if the gym was busy. Chilled and scented towels are always a nice touch and even better when they’re constantly refreshed (along with the rest of the towels and gym in general)
POOL

Outside of the gym, you will find the heated outdoor pool with loungers and tables (you can also order food and drink to the pool area). It was a comfortable temperature for my morning swim (at 7 AM).
BARREL SAUNA + HOT TUB

Both were in good working condition and pleasant to use after a gym session or swim.
SPA
Retreat at Hyatt Regency Vancouver is located on the lobby level of the hotel and offers massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, along with hair, lashes, waxing services and more.
REGENCY CLUB
This was an unexpected surprise as 1 – I hadn’t known that the hotel was re-opening a Regency Club and 2- opened earlier than the advertised date of July 10. The old Regency Club was one a higher floor and the new one is now located on the second floor.
- Access to the Regency Club can be obtained in three ways:
- Booking a room that includes lounge access (FYI sometimes available on points),
- Upgrading to a club room (either by using a WoH Club Access Award or you can paying cash), or
- Given as a Globalist elite status benefit (using a Guest of Honor would included club access)
The Regency Club is open from 6 AM – 10 PM

The Regency Club space is definitely the most unusual one that I have been in. Located on the second floor, once you come in after scanning your room key for access, to your left the space is open and you can look down at the lobby and Starbucks.
Once you get into the space, when breakfast and hors d’oeuvres are served, there is a host to greet you into the space. Once they have confirmed access, I was always walked over to the buffet space and given a rundown for what was available as well as had offers to help with getting settled or a drink
There’s a fair bit of seating before you hit the buffet area with a mix of sofas, chairs and tables built best for socializing and dining chairs and tables for eating.
Workspace: A refined, private setting to relax or conduct business away from the main lobby.

There’s a large table near the buffet with seating for nine along with bar stool seating looking out onto the streets of Vancouver.

The dining tables and chairs were set up on two sides of the glass partition looking down on the lobby. Here’s the bar area.
Breakfast was served from 6:30 AM – 10:30 AM and was a continental style offering. (Which honestly for many Globalists is a step down from breakfast offered in the restaurant)

The hot items available were oatmeal (with dried fruit, nuts, granola for toppings), scrambled eggs, bacon and potatoes. While the cold items were some cured meats, cheeses and cut up fruit.

You could also opt for cereal or yogurt. The assortment of baked goods included croissants, danishes, and muffins along with bagels and bread. Orange and apple juice were offered
It was a very average breakfast akin to what you would find at most Hyatt Places in the US. Pro tip: create breakfast sammies using the crossaint which will elevate your breakfast.
All-Day

After breakfast is cleared, there are light snacks (cookies, snack mix and pretzels), fresh fruit, non-alcoholic beverages, and coffee available.
Evening:

During the evening, Hors d’oeuvres are served (from 5 – 7 PM).
While not too terribly exciting (Vancouver is a fantastic food city so I was eating out a lot anyway) but it was nice that the Regency Club offered an opportunity for a little snack before dinner. And that there were little culinary touches like many different accompanying sauces.

There’s also a similar set up with cured meats and cheeses to what was served at breakfast. And the snacks from the afternoon, continue to be offered during and after.

Along with additional nibbles and desserts being served rounded out the spread.
Now is the Regency Club enough of a reason to book a room here? Likely not. But for many, especially those with children (or those like myself that need to be constantly feed), there’s enough offered throughout the day plus the convenience of it being in the hotel that makes it a plus.
And the service that is provided in the club is so wonderful from people remembering names to
But it was especially appreciated as there was quite a bit of craziness with the Egyptian team also staying here. Crowds of fans would line up for hours to catch a glance of the team and elevator access was further restricted when they were set to travel. There were a couple of times, I wanted to access the club during this time and the staff was so gracious and helpful in making sure that happened. Coolest part is how it lead to interactions with the team!
BARS / RESTAURANTS
Cloudstreet
Located on the second floor, the hotel’s newly opened signature restaurant serves Pacific Northwest-inspired cuisine using seasonal local ingredients. Open for breakfast: 6:30 AM – 11:00 AM / Lunch: 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM / Dinner: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Grain Tasting Bar
Located off Burrard Street in the main lobby, Grain Tasting Bar specializes in artisan cocktails, regional wines and craft beer. The menu selections are designed to be a perfect accompaniment to the flavors of British Columbia.
Starbucks
Lots of people will find that having a full Starbucks located inside the hotel is an important convenience (note that you are not able to have charges added to your room here)
In-Room Dining
You are able to order IRD for delivery or pick up from the Rooftop
SOME OF THE TOUCHES I LOVED
One of the things that I have come to appreciate more and more as I travel (and get older) is when hotels are designed to make things easier on guests.
The way the elevators are programmed: you choose a floor/destination (and scan room key as applicable) before getting on the elevator and then are told which elevator to enter does significantly speed up things (in addition to having six working elevators)

And I love that hydration stations are becoming more common for Hyatt properties – making it so easy to refill my bottle.
SERVICE EXPERIENCE
I had heard from others that the service was really great at this hotel and I would 100% agree that it is really wonderful and was from every person that I encountered during my stay.
The service was so, so great the entirety of my stay. It started at check-in from proactively getting a room based on my preferences ready hours before check-in and even apologizing about no suites being available (which is understandably what happens when World Cup is in town and one of the teams playing is stay at the hotel)!
Then throughout my stay especially during those times when security was tightened with said football team getting ready to enter or exit the hotel – from having employees recognize me as a guest and help escort me through the crowds and onto elevators or into the Regency Club. And speaking of Regency Club, the service there was really top-notch but in a relaxed and not-overbearing way (not even have to take into account that it had only been opened a few days prior!)
Other ways that staff were welcoming, professional and knowledgeable about Vancouver was when I was given some great restaurant recommendations and loads of help with transportation and World Cup advice (which for someone who doesn’t do a lot of prior research, this is such a nice bonus)!
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Positives for the hotel
- Friendly, professional staff providing excellent service
- Great option for Hyatt points redemptions
- Fantastic downtown location close to lots of restaurants and shopping
- Easy walk to Canada Place Cruise Terminal
- Heated outdoor pool and hot tub
- Direct access to Burrard SkyTrain Station
- Excellent dining options + On-site Starbucks
No hotel is perfect, and Hyatt Regency Vancouver has a few minor drawbacks.
- Some guest rooms are beginning to show their age compared to newer luxury hotels in Vancouver.
- Parking is expensive, although this is common throughout downtown Vancouver.
- The lobby can become crowded during cruise embarkation weekends and major conventions.
- Standard rooms are stylish but don’t have the ultra-luxury finishes found at Vancouver’s highest-end hotels.
- While none of these were deal-breakers, but they’re worth knowing before booking.
Who Should Stay Here?
This hotel is ideal for:
- Alaska cruise passengers
- Couples visiting Vancouver
- Families
- Business travelers
- Hyatt World of Hyatt members
- Anyone wanting to explore downtown without renting a car
Travelers seeking a more intimate luxury experience may prefer one of Vancouver’s boutique hotels, but for convenience and value, Hyatt Regency remains one of the city’s strongest choices.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Hyatt Regency Vancouver strikes an excellent balance between comfort, convenience and location.
While it may not be Vancouver’s trendiest luxury hotel, it excels where it matters most: great value, comfortable accommodations, outstanding transportation connections, a great central location and for me, excellent service and the ability to use points when needed.
For cruise passengers, it’s especially hard to beat. Being able to walk to Canada Place while also enjoying easy airport access via SkyTrain removes much of the stress from embarkation day.
Have you stayed at this property – what are your thoughts on it? Or is this now on your list of places to stay?
