Fly from Multiple US Cities to Europe for 90 Miles and less than $250!

Here’s another example of how dynamic pricing and elimination of award charts doesn’t mean that award flight prices will skyrocket – this showcases how the opposite can happen and really how low they can go (as actually I found a few flights for 45 miles!).

Which Program?

Lufthansa Group’s Miles & More loyalty program

Are There Really 90 Mile Award Flights?

Yes! That was not a click bait headline at all! Take a look at a couple that I quickly pull and still available for peak travel time this summer!

On the left side, we have a flight from New York, NY, USA (JFK) to Rome, Italy (FCO) that would be $458.80 in cash or 90 miles and $193.30

On the right side, we have a flight from Denver, CO, USA (DEN) to Barcelona, Spain (BCN) that would be $618.80 in cash or 90 miles and $234.30

Details on the Award Flights?

Let’s look at this specific flight from Los Angeles, CA, USA (LAX) to Budapest, Hungary (BUD).

On the left, you can see that would be $1267.60 in cash or 90 miles and $236.60!

And on the right, once you actually you click into the details, you will find that the economy light fare is more expensive ($1840) than the economy basic fare ($1267.60)! And here’s the big kicker and one that you need to be aware of is that you will be booking an economy light tickets. Perfect segue into the next section…

What’s The Catch?

Economy Light Fare has some very big caveats to note

  • No rebooking nor refundability (both are not allowed)
  • Baggage restrictions*: 8KG / 16 lbs for your cabin bag and checked baggage does not come with this flight
  • Seat Selection: fee
  • *So I don’t know how strict this is enforced so be prepared for it to be and pleasantly surprised if it is not. Also note: from what I can see online, I do not believe that Star Alliance Gold members will get this allowance even on a transcontinental flight.

But Wait! I thought Lufthansa is NOT a travel transfer partner for US credit card programs?

They are not but you know I would never tell you about something that you couldn’t take advantage of!

How To Earn The Miles?

If you are buying for a family or group, it might make sense to buy miles….or

When you sign up from Miles & More, you will earn 500 Miles for signing into the app! Sign up here.

IMPORTANT NOTE that you need at least 1500 miles to look for & book award flights so there’s a few more activities that you will need to do – I had a friend say that they were able to get 1600 today and book a flight!

Should You Do This?

For some, this is a perfect deal (if you don’t check a bag) and are okay with flying economy!

Oh Snap, Where Will I Stay?

You did listen to me and get the Chase Sapphire Preferred when there was that massive 100,000 sign up bonus right? Because those points will come in handy as you can transfer to Hyatt and these are the hotels that are available in each city!

Consider pairing that with a Chase Business Ink card (not the Premier as that DOES not earn transferrable points!) to add more Chase Ultimate Reward points

Happy hunting for your flights and please let me know if you book this deal =)
