Gas Prices Got You Down? Here’s Two Ways To Save Cash (Including $1/gallon on Wednesday Fillups + $50 For Signing Up)

Oof. It does not look like gas prices are going down anytime soon and so I wanted to show you two ways to help you save some money at the pump!

Does This Really Work?

Yes! I activate for the Phillips 66 and received $1.45/gallon as promised in the form of 2480 points which transfers to $24.80. Note that this was the first week this promotion rolled out so the offer was higher than normal $1 -$1.10/gal – I actually haven’t filled up again since I haven’t been driving a lot (and was sick for a couple weeks).

Posting Time

  • As always, best practice is to use the Rakuten app to ensure that everything is properly tracked/cookied and you need to buy the tickets on Stubhub’s site (not the app!). It may seem like overkill but you’ll thank me with this advice: take screenshots + keep emails from Rakuten and Viator until cash back has been paid out!

Perhaps I Need To Explain What is Rakuten and How to Use It for Cashback?

Rakuten is a shopping portal that pays you cashback when you shop starting on rakuten.com, their app or with their browser!

1. If you are new to Rakuten, you can get $50 for signing up!
2. Start via Rakuten on Rakuten.com, through their app or using their browser extension and search for a Merchant (unfortunately not every merchant participates)
3. Either click on the Rakuten extension and activate the cash-back for the store OR Click on the store to activate cash back on the app*
4. Rakuten will add a ‘tracking cookie’ as you make your purchase on the merchant’s site
5. Once the purchase is processed and the order information is sent to Rakuten, you will be notified via email that cash back has been added to your account.
6. You get paid by Rakuten every three months for any cashback earned and confirmed

Beautiful Tip: I strongly suggest using the app for your purchases as the tracking is more seamless but if not, you should definitely add the Rakuten extension to Chrome. Note: Safari security features make tracking cookies difficult including those need to track cashback.

TLDR version: You shop as normal with one small difference being that you do it through Rakuten making a big difference!

Start on Rakuten → Search for Merchant (click on merchant)→Shop via Merchant’s own website (ie Viator, Sephora so you still get reward directly with merchant)→Make purchase as you would have BUT now you earn cash back since you started on Rakuten!

Is Rakuten Legit? Seriously is it worth it?

I am sure that there are some of you are that are wondering: is this even legit? Maybe it seems a little too good to be true or maybe a little sketchy? Or is this even worth my time to do?

This was what I was had earned between 6/30/2023 and April 2026, I have already earned over $2,418.00 cash back (and remember that I primarily use the American Airlines shopping portal!)
