Stateroom Tours Series: Let’s Check Out My Sea View Stateroom Aboard Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady

You know you have been curious what the rooms aboard a cruise ship are like or maybe you are thinking about booking a Sea View with Virgin Voyages, come see what my stateroom looks like.

• SHIP STATS: The Resilient Lady is 912 ft long, 110K tons cruise ship with 1,404 cabins and suites (including 29 accessible) with 86% featuring a Sea Terrace hammock. Max capacity of 2,762 passengers (or as VV dubs them “sailors”) with a crew of 1,150 people.  17 decks with 13 that are passenger accessible and 9 that have cabins

VIRGIN VOYAGES’ SEA VIEW (OCEANVIEW) CABIN TOUR

STATEROOM SIZE / CONFIGURATION

My sea view (oceanview) cabin is 190 square feet / 18 square meters. There’s a comfortable window seat area under the porthole window that makes a cozy reading nook or relaxing place to gaze out at the ocean or even watch TV on the 43-inch smart 4K Ultra HDTV (with access to the infotainment system – Internet, movies on demand, ship info channel, real-time outside camera views)

I never tried it out but apparently the bed can be converted from a full European queen-sized bed to a comfy L-shaped lounger by selecting “day mode” on the cabin’s tablet. Lots of lighting in the room from wall-mounted reading lights to mood lighting behind the vanity mirror to desk lamps

Flexible closet area: featuring a full-length hanging rod with a top shelf and a spacious two-tier cube, plus a single-door wardrobe with 7 shelves and an electronic safe box (17-inch, in the closet)~ again one of multiple storage areas in the cabin (which in my haze from being so sick at the beginning of the cruise, I neglected taking photos of the closet and videos of the room!)

VIRGIN VOYAGES – SMART STATEROOM + CLEVER AND THOUGHTFUL DESIGN

VV states that their cabins are smart staterooms with mood lighting and sensors auto-adjusting cabin’s lighting according to sailor’s movements. What does that really work? The lights and AC would come on when I came into the room automatically. Or in the evenings, the mood lighting (softer lights emanating from behind the mirror etc) would activate.

There’s a tablet (pictured below charging in the left photo) that can be used the cabins’ mood lighting, thermostat, smart curtains, and TV + also assists with room service requests. This is one of those things that you don’t realize how great it is until you have it – ie the ability to turn off all lights or to open/close the smart curtain whilst still in bed!

Power outlets: There’s a total of 10 power outlets (1 European socket, 3 US sockets, and 6 USB sockets) strategically spread around the cabin. I really could have included this in the next section as well as it helps alleviate a common pain point when cruising with the lack of places to charge devices aboard other cruise line’s ships!

BATHROOM SIZE / CONFIGURATION

Bathrooms are glossy/iridescent cream and white, storage within the s shelving and lit mirrors, and they are all about the same standard size until you move up to premium suites. The showers are pretty roomy with have oversized rain showerheads, glass doors, a second handheld shower sprayer. The glass door is well designed so you don’t end up with water splashing out onto the bathroom floor during your shower (this seems like a given but I have seen more often than not on cruise ships and in hotels, that this is unfortunately uncommon!)

BATHROOM AMENITIES

There are dispensers of ‘red flower’ branded bath gel, shampoo and conditioner. Note that Virgin Voyages does not provide lotion

STATEROOM LOCATION

The casino was directly above my stateroom but luckily Virgin Voyages restricts smoking to one room so I never had to deal with cigarette smoke – which I would have definitely noticed as I am sensitive to that! *And this is a very big caveat as I was feeling so horrible/alone/raw on the first evening so it seemed a bit noisy (possibly from the casino or the Manor). For the otther evenings I was out myself so I can’t confidently say that it is or isn’t a noisy room.

COMPARISON VS OTHER SEA VIEWS ON RESILIENT LADY

The Resilient Lady does offer 6 solo sea views measuring 130 square feet (~12 square metes) – note that these are all partially restricted views with a capacity of 1.

The other 89 sea view cabins on the Resilient Lady are all the same size measuring 190 square feet (18 square meters) with a capacity of 3. Those on the 5th deck will have clear, unobstructed sea views while those on decks 9, 10, 11 and 12 will have restricted/obstructed views of varying degrees.

I have also stay in a Sea Terrace (or what other lines call a balcony) aboard another VV sailing and while I understand why people would splurge for a balcony, I would happily take another Sea View room!
