Krka National Park Guide Including How To Here From Split, Croatia + Tour Review
Visiting Krka National Park from Split is one of the most popular and rewarding day trips in Croatia. With dramatic waterfalls, wooden boardwalks, historic monasteries, and emerald-green river pools, Krka offers a completely different side of Dalmatia beyond Split’s Roman ruins and beaches. This guide will give you all the info needed to make the most of your time on one of the top highlights of my trip to Croatia!

- Combines nature, culture, and history
- Family-friendly and photogenic
- Wooden walkways – no hiking required
Where Is Krka National Park?
- Distance from Split: ~85 km (53 miles)
- Travel time: 1-1.5 hours each way by car or tour

How to Get to Krka from Split
Guided Tour
Most visitors choose a guided Krka tour from Split, which typically includes:
- Round-trip transportation
- National park entry coordination (typically do not include entrance fees which run as high as €40/adult during peak/summer)
- Boat ride (seasonal)
- Free time inside the park
Guided Tour: What to Know For Cruise Passengers
For cruise passengers docking in Split, while Krka is one of the easiest national parks to reach in a single day, you need to be careful about booking an excursion. You will need to book a private tour as start time and tour duration with how long ships are in port, do NOT work for a typical tour. One of the ways that I have been able to affordably book private tours whilst cruising solo is booking with others (found through cruise roll call Facebook groups or met whilst on board!) Consider this Private Trip Tour to Krka Waterfalls Split with paid options to add-on extras such as a side trip or wine tasting (with a set cost per vehicle so add more people = less costly) Note that like all tours, the entrance fee for Krka is not included (
DIY (Car or Bus)
You can rent a car or take a bus to Skradin or Lozovac, then enter the park independently.

Krka National Park During Different Times of The Year
- Spring (April – May) Best for: Water flow, fewer crowds
- This is when the waterfalls are most powerful from snowmelt and surrounded by lush greenery with cooler temperatures
- Summer (June – August) Best for: Boat rides & long daylight
- This is peak tourist season so expect crowds, especially mid-day and hot temperatures
- Fall (September – October) Best for: Balanced weather & lighter crowds
- This is when there will be fewer crowds with beautiful autumn colors and it is still typically warm.
- Winter (November – March) Best for: Quiet visits
- You balance having the fewest visitors during this time with limited boat service and possibility that some paths may be closed after rainstorms.

My Experience on the From Split: Krka Waterfalls Tour, Boat Cruise & Swimming

Meet Up
This tour does not include pick up but the meeting point was easily accessible in Split. We opted for the earlier start time of 8:30 AM. I didn’t take any pictures of the bus but it was comfortable for the 1 hour ride to Krka.
Krka National Park
It was a nice mix of guided and then free time on the tour with about two hours total here.
Can You Swim at Krka Waterfalls?

Swimming is no longer allowed at Krka National Park to protect the ecosystem. I went before this was implemented which is why some of my photos show people swimming, but current regulations strictly prohibit it.
Skradinski Buk (Main Waterfall Area)

This is the highlight of Krka and the most visited section with multiple cascading waterfalls and wooden walkways over the river.

Take time to go around as they are viewing platforms and photo spots along with old water mills turned into exhibits.

This area is easy to walk, well-marked, and suitable for all ages.
Krka Wooden Boardwalks
The circular boardwalk trail winds through:

- Waterfalls and rapids, lush greenery, traditional stone houses and quiet river viewpoints

The full loop typically takes 30 minutes to an hour, depending on pace and crowd levels.

Boat Ride to Skradin

The tour includes a relaxing boat cruise along the Krka River to the charming town of Skradin.
Skradin
Skradin is a small, picturesque Dalmatian town located at the mouth of the Krka River and serves as one of the main entrances to Krka National Park.

Walk the Waterfront / Lunch in Skradin
The stop here allows you enough time to stroll along the marina and riverfront promenade lined with cafés, gelato shops, wine bars and souvenir boutiques.
Skradin is known for traditional Dalmatian cuisine, especially fresh seafood, black risotto and local wines from nearby vineyards
Skradin Beach (Swimming Allowed)

Unlike Krka waterfalls, swimming is allowed in Skradin. The small pebble beach near town is a popular summer stop and offers calm river meets sea waters with views back toward the hills. This is a refreshing break after walking the park
