VIRGIN VOYAGES’ SEA VIEW (OCEANVIEW) CABIN TOUR

STATEROOM TYPE: Sea View (VV’s Oceanview)

STATEROOM # : 5278Z – forward/starboard

STATEROOM SIZE / CONFIGURATION

My sea view (oceanview) cabin is 190 square feet / 18 square meters. There’s a comfortable window seat area under the porthole window that makes a cozy reading nook or relaxing place to gaze out at the ocean or even watch TV on the 43-inch smart 4K Ultra HDTV (with access to the infotainment system – Internet, movies on demand, ship info channel, real-time outside camera views)

I never tried it out but apparently the bed can be converted from a full European queen-sized bed to a comfy L-shaped lounger by selecting “day mode” on the cabin’s tablet. Lots of lighting in the room from wall-mounted reading lights to mood lighting behind the vanity mirror to desk lamps

The window seat was a lovely place to watch the sunset on the Mediterranean

Flexible closet area: featuring a full-length hanging rod with a top shelf and a spacious two-tier cube, plus a single-door wardrobe with 7 shelves and an electronic safe box (17-inch, in the closet)~ again one of multiple storage areas in the cabin (which in my haze from being so sick at the beginning of the cruise, I neglected taking photos of the closet and videos of the room!)

VIRGIN VOYAGES – SMART STATEROOM + CLEVER AND THOUGHTFUL DESIGN

VV states that their cabins are smart staterooms with mood lighting and sensors auto-adjusting cabin’s lighting according to sailor’s movements. What does that really work? The lights and AC would come on when I came into the room automatically. Or in the evenings, the mood lighting (softer lights emanating from behind the mirror etc) would activate.

There’s a tablet (pictured below charging in the left photo) that can be used the cabins’ mood lighting, thermostat, smart curtains, and TV + also assists with room service requests. This is one of those things that you don’t realize how great it is until you have it – ie the ability to turn off all lights or to open/close the smart curtain whilst still in bed!

Power outlets: There’s a total of 10 power outlets (1 European socket, 3 US sockets, and 6 USB sockets) strategically spread around the cabin. I really could have included this in the next section as well as it helps alleviate a common pain point when cruising with the lack of places to charge devices aboard other cruise line’s ships!

See below for more on the well thought out ways that VV designed their cabins and items – especially those to be multi-use/purpose which is so useful in space restricted staterooms!

First there’s the multi-use area that can serve as a mirrored vanity table or a writing desk with stool!

Mini bar area with a slated (vs solid) wood door enclosing the spacious mini fridge helps it run better to actually keep your stuff cold that also has extra storage area. It’s completed with an ice bucket, bottle opener and glassware

Convertible c-table can be used as a coffee table, side table, ottoman, nightstand to my favorite use: a tray for a cozy breakfast in bed

Utilization of what is typically dead/wasted space: with the underbed area built for storage and inclusion of a small area that can be used a night stand that includes extra storage space with drawers.

Beautiful Tips: If you are like me and don’t have your room serviced daily, it’s easy to request to only have your water carafes refilled via the tablet. Also for us folks that like our waters to be as effervescent as we are – Virgin offers the choice for sparkling water in your stateroom =)

BATHROOM SIZE / CONFIGURATION

Bathrooms are glossy/iridescent cream and white, storage within the s shelving and lit mirrors, and they are all about the same standard size until you move up to premium suites. The showers are pretty roomy with have oversized rain showerheads, glass doors, a second handheld shower sprayer. The glass door is well designed so you don’t end up with water splashing out onto the bathroom floor during your shower (this seems like a given but I have seen more often than not on cruise ships and in hotels, that this is unfortunately uncommon!)

BATHROOM AMENITIES

There are dispensers of ‘red flower’ branded bath gel, shampoo and conditioner as shown in the shower along with a small shelf for your own toiletries. And while I did appreciate that VV didn’t follow other cruise lines and provide a shampoo/conditioner combo product, this is one of the few misses for me aboard the ship as I would have expected a higher quality product. So I should stress that by no means are these bad and I only had to supplement them with my own conditioner as I often do, but since this is a review, I do want to be honest about my take. And lol this is also possibly me being too hard on Virgin since they did such a great job on so many other things! Note that Virgin Voyages does not provide lotion.

STATEROOM LOCATION

The casino was directly above my stateroom but luckily Virgin Voyages restricts smoking to one room so I never had to deal with cigarette smoke – which I would have definitely noticed as I am sensitive to that! *And this is a very big caveat as I was feeling so horrible/alone/raw on the first evening so it seemed a bit noisy (possibly from the casino or the Manor). For the otther evenings I was out myself so I can’t confidently say that it is or isn’t a noisy room.

COMPARISON VS OTHER SEA VIEWS ON RESILIENT LADY

The Resilient Lady does offer 6 solo sea views measuring 130 square feet (~12 square metes) – note that these are all partially restricted views with a capacity of 1.

The other 89 sea view cabins on the Resilient Lady are all the same size measuring 190 square feet (18 square meters) with a capacity of 3. Those on the 5th deck will have clear, unobstructed sea views while those on decks 9, 10, 11 and 12 will have restricted/obstructed views of varying degrees.

OVERALL RATING OF STATEROOM

While I was very disappointed with how the casino offer played out (long story I may someday get to blogging about), I did ultimately enjoy the Sea View room. I loved how it was so airy and bright!

My overall rating for this sea view stateroom aboard Resilient Lady would be a resounding 9.3. Even if you didn’t know all of the particulars about how Virgin Voyages designed this stateroom and what is in it, you would be able to tell the difference whilst in the room. Good design isn’t just about aesthetics but also how it improves and/or enhances your experience.

While I didn’t love the bathroom products that was really just a small hiccup and only from someone that spends a lot of time in different hotels and on different ships plus is #teamcarryon so it’s something that I have started really paying attention to how much quality differs from place/chain to another.

What was the big factor that prevents this from being a solid or even high 9 is that you can’t turn off the AC completely when you are in your cabin which makes no sense to me!

And why am I even rating rooms? I do wonder whether this is the best thing to do vs just having these posts be tours. But my goal is always to be honest and have you as well-informed as possible so that you can make the best choice. Sometimes it may be that you realize this isn’t the right choice for you and other times, it may be a matter of going in with tempered expectations!

Lastly, I have been able to cruise with Virgin Voyages again about the Valient Lady and in a XL Sea Terrace (or what other lines call a balcony) and while I understand why people would splurge for a balcony, I would happily take another Sea View room!

Curious what my other staterooms were like on other ships? They’ll all be linked here (as I get to writing these posts!)
